Mother of Pearl

Mother of pearl is an organic–inorganic composite produced by molluscs as an inner shell layer. It is the same material the constitutes pearls. Like pearls, it is a strong, sturdy, and resilient material. It thus affords a comfortable and comforting tactile sensation when used for counting mantras.

Mother of pearl has been traditionally used in Asia to enhance treatments of heart palpitations, dizziness, improving vision, cataracts, wound healing and high blood pressure. There are many possible hues to mother of pearl although most often them have an iridescent quality regardless of hue.
