SANDALWOOD COILED INCENSE

Coiled incense is popularly used in East Asia. We have been searching for a good source of high-quality coiled incense and surprisingly succeeded during this pandemic season! We found an old, traditional incense-maker in Hong Kong (through our friends in Malaysia) and we are very happy to share with you the coiled incense from this small-batch incense maker. Sandalwood oil has been used since over 4,000 years ago, making it among the oldest-known materials used for its uplifting scent. It has found its way into fragrances, cosmetics and personal care products and meditative/spiritual practices. The oil has a woody, exotic smell that's subtle and lingering. Although expensive, it has many wonderful characteristics that make it beneficial for health and wellness. In Tibetan medicine, sandalwood is considered simultaneously calming and uplifting. It is soothes while also energizes. We carry two types—sandalwood & sandalwood king. The sandalwood king is a more delicate scent. Try both!

Red Cypress

This incense is handcrafted by a small incense maker in Malaysia whom we are friends with. It is a blend of white sandalwood with red cypress 紅心柏 even though on the label you will see "juniper." The scent is clear and soothing unlike Himalayan juniper which is often sharp & bold. This is definitely the incense you want if you are looking to relax and yet remaining alert in your meditation.

Malaysian Agarwood

This dark resinous wood is formed from the heartwood of aquilaria trees that grow in many parts of Southeast Asia and eastern South Asia. Prior to infection, the heartwood is odorless, however, as the infection progresses, the tree produces a dark aromatic resin.

The odor of agarwood is complex and pleasing, with few or no similar natural analogues. In the perfume state, the scent is mainly distinguished by a combination of "oriental-woody" and "very soft fruity-floral" notes. The incense smoke is also characterized by a "sweet-balsamic" note and "shades of vanilla and musk" and amber. As far back as 1400 BCE, the Hindu Vedas were already extolling the qualities of agarwood.

In Tibetan medicine, agarwood is the main ingredient for treating what is known as "lhung" (Tib. rlung) disorders.
