Chod Damaru

This Chod damaru is made from sangphang wood — a favorite wood for making damarus. Damaru drums originated in South Asia where it is used by Shaiva ascetics especially. Damaru drums are two-sided which for vajrayana Buddhists symbolize the inseparability of the Two Truths, the union of wisdom and compassion. Chod damarus in particular contain mantras inscribed in their insides.

  • 9.5" diameter
  • Good quality, light weight
  • Brocade cover & tassel included
  • Handcrafted in Nepal

[Note: The tension on the skin for these traditional drums will vary depending on the altitude and humidity of where the drum lives. The best way to tone it to the right tension is whenever the drum goes flat, wet paper-towels thoroughly and put them on both surfaces, avoiding setting the glue lines as much as you can. Let the paper-towels dry out by themselves (and fall off the drum) and this will enable the skin reset themselves. See the last photo we have provided in the product photo gallery. This is a “life-hack” we learned from Native American elders!]
