Gilt & Silver Plate on Copper Offering-Bowls
Offering bowls are used extensively in Tibetan/Himalayan Buddhism. Usually a row of seven bowls plus a lamp is used to present the “eight outer-offerings” of 2 waters (to drink & to wash), flowers, incense, light, perfume, food and music. Although one could fill each bowl with the actual corresponding offering, often all the bowls are filled with water (except for the light-offering which is a butterlamp—or tealight) and arranged in a row in front of one’s personal shrine.
