Shechen Monastery Sur Incense

Surpo or “sur incense” is primarily offered to those beings wandering in the “intermediate state” (bardo) between this and next life. It is said that these beings are rely on scent and aroma for their sustenance. The Buddha taught that making aroma/scent offerings to such beings is a great act of charity and generosity. This sur-incense by Shechen Monastery is cleanly and carefully prepared according to the instructions found in ritual-texts. Its ingredients include the ‘three white things’ (yogurt, milk and butter); ‘the three sweet things’ (molasses, honey and sugar); the six medicinal spices; (barley flour, and special, sacred substances), which are all precisely combined in order to make this supreme offering. Roll contains approximately 45, 10″ sticks of incense.

Shechen Monastery is dedicated to the preservation and continuation of the Tibetan Buddhist spiritual and cultural heritage. In particular, their emphasis is on the Nyingma lineage of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and is now under the leadership of Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche and Dilgo Yangsi Rinpoche.
