Surpo (Sur Incense) – Handmade in Shechen Monastery
Surpo, or “sur incense,” is a traditional offering to beings in the bardo, the intermediate state between life and death. According to Buddha’s teachings, scent and aroma serve as sustenance for these beings. Offering surpo is considered a profound act of charity and generosity. This sur-incense is crafted by Shechen Monastery, following sacred ritual texts to ensure purity and precision in its preparation.
Ingredients and Symbolism
The incense is made with a blend of ingredients that are both symbolic and sacred:
