The historical Buddha and the founder of Buddhism. He is typically depicted as sitting with the legs crossed. However, there are many different poses or postures depending upon the origin of the statue and tradition. In this version, Buddha’s right hand is in the bhumisparsha mudra -with all five fingers of his right hand are seen reaching to touch the ground, symbolizing the enlightenment of the Buddha under the Bodhi tree. The mudra symbolizes his renunciation of worldly desires. In his left hand he holds an alms bowl.
