Vajrabhairava (Tib. Dorje Jikje, also commonly known as Yamantaka) is one of the main yidams of the highest yoga tantra level of vajrayana. He is the wrathful manifestation of Manjushri, the Buddha of Wisdom. He belongs to the Vajrabhairava and Yamari class of tantras and specifically arises from the Vajrabhairava Root Tantra. There are many different forms of Vajrabhairava and the form depicted in this thangka - a bull-headed representation - is most commonly practiced by Gelukpas and Sakyapas these days. He has 9 faces, 34 hands, 16 legs and in union with his consort Vajravetali. This thangka exudes a very potent evergy!
