This white sheer Katag (Khata) is a Tibetan ceremonial scarf, measuring 7 feet in length and adorned with sacred auspicious symbols. Traditionally offered to teachers, elders, and honored guests, the Katag represents respect, blessings, and spiritual goodwill in Tibetan Buddhism.

Symbolism & Meaning

The Katag (Khata) is a symbol of pure intentions and reverence. In Tibetan culture, it has replaced flower garlands, which were traditionally offered in Indian customs, due to the difficulty of sourcing large flowers in Tibet. Instead, silk scarves like this one, adorned with auspicious symbols, carry blessings for prosperity, wisdom, and protection. Offering this Katag is a sacred practice that invites positive energy and spiritual growth.

makes a substantial offering to a lama after an empowerment

A thick, sensuous feel to it, but I wish I'd ordered in a longer size rather than just 7 feet. This store has the larger size. Lovely Tibetan Buddhist "auspicious" symbols in outline on the fabric.
