Tomra Chod Visor (Beaded)
The Tomra is a unique visor or hat worn during Chod practice and sur-offerings. It is designed to cover the practitioner’s eyes without obstructing their vision, serving both practical and symbolic purposes. This ritual wear plays a significant role in Tibetan Buddhist ceremonies, particularly those focused on offering and purification.
Symbolism & Meaning
The Tomra serves as a protective garment in Chod practice, helping the practitioner appear less threatening to spirits and ghosts invited during the offering. It is believed that highly spiritual individuals emanate a “brightness” from the forehead region, which can intimidate lower entities. By covering the eyes, the Tomra minimizes this effect, creating a more approachable and welcoming presence for spirits and beings in the bardo (the intermediate state between life and death).

Lovely, totally recommended! I thought it would be uncomfortable to use but it feels very balance while wearing it and the actual details of the white beads, the silky brocade, the strings and all together it looks far from something that can be done on your own.
