This very detailed medical thangka is a hand-painted copy of the original thangka which is part of a set of medical thangkas commissioned by Desi Sangye Gyatso (1653-1705), regent to the 5th Dalai Lama. This set of 79 annotated medical and anatomical paintings illustrate the contents of the main medical texts of Tibet known as The Four Tantras (Tib. Gyushi) and was traditionally used to educate future physicians. This is truly, one-of-a-kind piece!
