Karma Pakshi is the Second Gyalwa Karmapa (1203-1283) and also an emanation of Padmasambhava. He became especially famous for his displays of magical skills and abilities of taming demonic powers. In this composition which is based on a vision of the Namchö Tertön Migyur Dorje, we see Karma Pakshi with a retinue of seven figures: above Kama Pakshi is Padmasambhava and to his right is Rechungpa and to his left is Migyur Dorje. On Karma Pakshi's immediate right side is Hayagriva and on his left side is Vajravarahi. In front are the protectors Bernakchen Mahakala (center), Palden Lhamo and Damchen Garwa Nakpo.
