Agarwood Incense (Vietnam)
Agarwood incense is one of the most revered offerings in traditional Buddhist practice, valued for its deeply soothing scent and therapeutic benefits. Harvested from the resinous heartwood of the Aquilaria tree, this incense carries a rich history of spiritual use across Asia, and particularly in Tibetan medicine. The warm, sweet, and complex aroma makes it an ideal companion for evening practice, meditation, or winding down the day.
Symbolism & Meaning
In Buddhist, Hindu, and Islamic cultures, agarwood is treasured as a sacred scent that purifies the mind and space. It is particularly significant in Tibetan medicine for treating rlung (wind) disorders—emotional and energetic imbalances such as anxiety, panic, or depression. Among practitioners engaged in deep meditation or mantra retreat, agarwood is known to prevent and soothe sok rlung, a form of spiritual fatigue. Burning agarwood incense invokes a calming clarity and supports one’s ability to rest, center, and stabilize the winds of the mind. (See THIS article to learn more about "sok lhung" problems among practitioners).

Pretty decent. Has a delicate bouquet which is quite faithful to the typical Vietnamese bouquet, but does fall short a slight bit, though I may be a bit spoiled. I'll start with the bad to end with the good:
For the drawbacks: there are no kinamic notes to be had, the woodiness is in the background, and overall the bouquet is somewhat delicate and a bit simpler. But these are all things to be expected from what seems to be cultivated agarwood.
For the positives: Has that sweet, creamy note that most Viatnamese-originating agarwoods share, has a musty aquatic note which is somewhat unique in my experience (agarwood is often musty in the old linen/book way), and the woodiness which is there plays very well with these notes to create a picture of sitting on a dock next to a still freshwater lake, surrounded by distant forests.
I am of course comparing this to similarly priced (per stick) incense I've had before. This is a good incense, but if you are looking for a daily agarwood burn, this might not be the best option for you–there are other options which provide a better experience for a similar price per stick. For something which you use intermittently, this would be a good option and good price. If you're trying to explore the breadth in bouquets that agarwood provides, this would be a good option as well, especially for the natural aquatic note (assuming this is a pure agarwood-only stick).
Also, forewarning, the tube you receive may be different than the one pictured. I got a blue one.
Authentic agarwood scent! Works well to combine with resin and other incense for long slow fragrant smoke
Unique scent that permeates and lingers in the way that juniper and other needle-bearing sang substances don't. Recommend!
Enjoy the scent and home harmonization!
