Achi Chokyi Drolma is an historical manifestation of Vajravarahi who was also the great grandmother of Kyobpa Jikten Sumgon (1143-1217, founder of Drikung Kagyu). In her lifetime she practiced the Nyingma teachings and is said to have ridden her horse into the sky at the end of her life. She is a powerful wisdom-protector who guards and protects all sincere Dharma-practitioners to rely on her. She is also known for her power to confer wealth.
In this thangka, we see Achi in her semi-wrathful form. Immediately above her is Vajravarahi and above her is Kyobpa Jikten Sumgon. Together, they are the Three Roots of guru, yidam and dakini. Lineage masters are in the area above Achi while Achi is accompanied by four dakinis who represent the four exalted-activities of pacification, enrichment, magnetization and destruction. Below to their right is Four Arm Mahakala with his red-consort and the four Raven-headed retinue and on the other side is Tashi Tseringma with her four sisters.
