Yeshe Tsogyal lived in 8th century and is one of the most important teachers in the establishment of Buddhism in Tibet. She was born a princess and when Padmasambhava came to Tibet she became one of his most important disciples as well as his spiritual consort. In many Nyingma practices, she is considered a human emanation of the primordial female buddha Samantabhadri. In other contexts she is considered an emanation of Sarasvati - the goddess of eloquence. In this thangka, the form she assumes is called "Queen of Great Bliss" (Tib. Dechen Gyalmo) and is particularly associated with the dakini practice of Longchen Nyingthik lineage.
