Vajrabhairava with Consort Thangka (Hand Painted, 15" x 20")
This original, hand-painted thangka features Vajrabhairava (Tib. Dorje Jikje), also widely known as Yamantaka, one of the central yidams of highest yoga tantra in the Vajrayana path. A wrathful emanation of Manjushri, the Buddha of Wisdom, Vajrabhairava represents the fierce, penetrating wisdom that conquers death and delusion. Depicted here in his classic bull-headed form—common within Gelukpa and Sakyapa lineages—he appears with nine faces, thirty-four hands, sixteen legs, and in union with his consort Vajravetali. This piece carries an especially dynamic and potent presence.
Symbolism & Meaning
Vajrabhairava manifests the unrelenting clarity of wisdom that overcomes all fear, particularly the fear of death. His many arms and faces symbolize the vast skillful means and expansive awareness required to dismantle deeply rooted ignorance. Practicing with Vajrabhairava as one’s yidam aids in cutting through obstacles, transforming the mind, and actualizing profound realization.
